Profile of Ros
Renton
I
got into miniatures in the usual round-a-bout manner. I had been working
as a 'big' potter but unfortunately I developed a bone disease that made
it
too painful for me to throw the clay. As my illness progressed (my bad
temper grew accordingly) and in desperation my husband bought me a dolls
house to give me something to 'play' with.
My
first dolls house was a Dolls House Emporium - The Priory. I had a lovely
time playing decorating the rooms. As I couldn't get out much I started
to buy all the little bits mail order and was horrified at some of the
rubbish that is being sold - I decided to make some little things for
myself.
I
found that whilst I still couldn't make the actual ceramic items, I did
find that I could paint the same type of decorations that I had painted
on my big pots - I now could paint them in 1/12th scale. As my skill in
this improved I decided to start up my own mail order business.
This
was 4/5 years ago and thankfully has gone from strength to strength. During
this last year I started to paint a range of 1/24th scale and these have
proved very popular. I will alwayspaint things in different colours for
people to match their various decor and I am always on the lookout for
new designs."
