Miniature Knitting - Most Recent 5

Knitting for Dummies!

Although I never set out to promote any one stitch pattern book, I now find that I have dozens from Barbara Walker's books. There is a ongoing project to knit swatches of her patterns in colour - her illustrations are mainly black and white. Where I can remember the pattern, I have now added the stitch name and volume of her book to help the army of Barbara Walker fans.

New A video that shows me knitting in miniature to give you an idea of the size needles and thread that I use.

I know that a lot of people come looking for free knitting patterns from me. I'm sorry that none are written up and to be honest they wouldn't fit a doll anyway -the requirements for a mannequin are less stringent than a doll. I am loathe to sell patterns that may not fulfill other people's expectations, and to give away free patterns would be unfair on other people who are trying to make a bit of a living from their own patterns.

Barbara Walker Mosaic Knitting - number 50

The skirt pattern has already been done in red but it is a favourite pattern and this was knitted for my DMIL. She has it encased in a Ferrero Roche plastic box to protect it from great grandchildren!

Very difficult to capture the dainty colour of this dress - it's a very pale lilac. Venne Colcoton 34/2, size 20 needles

Combining two multi coloured threads produces wonderful results. The photo doesn't do it justice. Venne Colcoton 34/2, size 20 needles
Brown lacy dress makes me think of a Catherine Cookson character in her Sunday best. Venne Colcoton 34/2, size 20 needles

Same dress with the shawl that is shown in the early knitting pages.
This pattern doesn't show up as much as others do, but it's probably much closer to true 1/12 scale. Venne Colcoton 34/2, size 20 needles

This is a reknit of a the first mini sweater that I knitted. The first one was done on size 19 needles and used 1 ply wool. This was done with Venne Colcton thread with size 20 needles. You can see the difference in size, although now the pattern is out of scale for the size sweater. I changed the middle pattern, but essentially the row count is the same as the first.

This is a rare occasion when I used someone else's pattern. This lovely pattern 'Emma' can be found on Helena Bleeker's site It is also part of a new booklet she is publishing containing several sweaters. Venne Colcoton 34/2, size 21 and 20 needles

This was a lovely stitch to do. The colouring is reminiscent of my elder daughter's onetime obsession with blue and gold. Venne Colcoton 34/2, size 20 needles

The colours in this one didn't contrast as much as I expected, but satisfying, nevertheless. Venne Colcoton 34/2, size 20 needles

I have to admit that this is a current favourite. Using a Barbara Walker pattern which incorporates woven bands and quilting, I then embellished it with red and black thread.

Another favourite style using a Barbara Walker mosaic (Mosaic no 26, Fourth Treasury of Knitting Patterns)

A simple sweater to get back into miniature two colour stranded knitting after a long break.
This Swallowtail Shawl by Evelyn Clark is very popular in full size. This is my miniature version - of course. I used very fine machine thread.
